August--Pictures from our first month away

Following are a few pictures and videos from part of our first month in Japan. We lived in the inn on base for a whole month, so life was simple, and we did a lot of getting out to see the sights and experiences of a new culture.

Our First big pack of Japanese sweets. Some of them weren't too bad, but the ones in the lower left corner tasted like pastries filled with sweetened paste made from cigarettes.

We drove east to find the ocean. We live almost at the northernmost tip of Japan's main island, on the east side near the ocean. Because of the strong tides and undertow, you can only swim in designated areas.






This is at Miss Veedol Beach.
Miss Veedol was the name of the airplane that flew the first trans-pacific flight. It took off from this beach in Misawa, the town that the base is in. Dave is pointing to where the sign says that the airplane was headed for Salt Lake City, UT (it ended up landing in Washington state).
