October 2008, II
A trip to a children's park. It has rides for little kids, a small petting zoo, and some monkeys.

One of the strangest and funniest things we've seen--you put money in, and it actually walks around while you steer.
In Hirosaki, a town a few hours west of us, to see Hirosaki Castle

Us in front of the castle--when you say castle here, this is the kind of building being referred to (nothing like European castles). This one was built in 1611, and has many successive moats and fortifications still intact around it.

From the grounds of the castle, a huge volcanic mountain in the background.

Katelyn has a thing for rocks (nature vs. nurture? we're not sure).
Everywhere we go she stops to pick them up, collect them, and show them to you.

A smaller building on the castle grounds.
